About This Sacred Artwork

The Annunciation unfolds in a quiet interior filled with golden light. Archangel Gabriel, robed in white and gold, kneels before the Blessed Virgin Mary and offers white lilies as a sign long associated with her purity. Mary sits beside an open book, her hand resting over her heart, clothed in a blue mantle and rose garment. Above them, a dove descends through the radiant beam, drawing the eye toward the mystery of the Incarnation. The scene is intimate and reverent, holding the stillness of a sacred moment when heaven’s message enters a humble room and Mary receives it with faith.

Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord, March 25

Sacred Tradition

History & Devotion

The Annunciation commemorates the angel Gabriel’s greeting to the Blessed Virgin Mary and her faithful consent to God’s will, as recounted in the Gospel of Luke. Celebrated by the Church on March 25, the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord falls nine months before Christmas and honors the beginning of the Incarnation, when the eternal Son of God took flesh in Mary’s womb. Catholic devotion has long contemplated this mystery through prayer, sacred art, and the Angelus, returning again and again to Mary’s humble words, “Let it be done to me according to your word.” The event stands at the threshold of the Gospel, where divine grace meets human freedom in perfect trust.

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
