About This Sacred Artwork

Our Lady of Lourdes appears within a softly glowing grotto, clothed in white and girded with a blue sash, her hands joined in prayer and a rosary falling gently from her arm. Below her, Saint Bernadette kneels in reverent attention, turned upward beside the warm light of candles. The rocky cave, flowing stream, and small flowers gather around the figures with quiet tenderness, recalling the humility of the Lourdes apparition and the hope so many pilgrims bring to Mary’s intercession. This work invites contemplation of trust, purity, and prayerful surrender, holding the viewer before a moment of grace marked by silence and light.

Sacred Tradition

History & Devotion

Devotion to Our Lady of Lourdes is rooted in the apparitions reported by Saint Bernadette Soubirous in 1858 at the grotto of Massabielle near Lourdes, France. The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette as a young lady clothed in white, calling for prayer and penance. In the course of the apparitions, Mary identified herself with the words, “I am the Immaculate Conception,” a title already solemnly defined by the Church only a few years earlier. Lourdes soon became one of the most beloved pilgrimage sites in Catholic life, especially associated with prayer, conversion, the sick, and confidence in Mary’s maternal intercession. The Church celebrates Our Lady of Lourdes on February 11.

For Prayer

Prayer to Our Lady of Lourdes

Our Lady of Lourdes, gentle Mother of the sick and sorrowful, lead us to your Son with humble and trusting hearts. Teach us to pray with faith, to accept God’s will with peace, and to seek healing of body and soul. May your maternal intercession draw us nearer to Jesus, our hope and our salvation. Amen.
