About This Sacred Artwork

Our Lady Star of the Sea appears above the restless waters in a mantle of deep blue and gold, crowned and haloed beneath a radiant star. Her hands are open in a gesture of maternal welcome, while the ocean below catches the light of sunset. A lighthouse rises from the rocky shore, and a sailboat moves across the horizon, quietly echoing the ancient Marian title Stella Maris. The scene invites contemplation of Mary as a motherly guide who points the faithful toward Christ amid uncertainty, danger, and passage. Golden clouds, sea light, and the star above form a prayerful vision of trust beneath her care.

Sacred Tradition

History & Devotion

Stella Maris, meaning Star of the Sea, is one of the Church’s cherished Marian titles. It has long been associated with prayer for those who travel by water and, more broadly, for all who seek safe passage through uncertainty. The title is famously honored in the ancient hymn Ave Maris Stella, which addresses Mary with reverence and asks her maternal intercession. Catholic devotion sees Mary not as the destination of faith, but as a faithful guide who leads souls to her Son. In maritime imagery, the star becomes a sign of direction, constancy, and hope when the way ahead is dark or difficult.

For Prayer

Prayer to Our Lady Star of the Sea

Our Lady Star of the Sea, guide us with your motherly care when the waters of life are troubled. Keep our eyes turned toward Jesus, your Son, and help us trust His light when the path is unclear. Pray for all who travel, all who work upon the sea, and all who seek safe harbor in God’s mercy. Amen.
