History & Devotion

The memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated by the Catholic Church on October 7. The feast is historically connected with thanksgiving for Christian deliverance at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571, when Pope Saint Pius V urged the faithful to pray the Rosary and attributed the victory to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Over time, the title became a wider celebration of the Rosary itself, a prayer in which Catholics meditate on the mysteries of Christ’s life, Passion, and glory in the company of His Mother. Devotion to Our Lady of the Rosary continues to draw the faithful into Scripture, perseverance, and trust in Mary’s maternal intercession.
