About This Sacred Artwork

Our Lady of Mount Carmel appears with the Christ Child against a golden coastal horizon, her brown mantle and cream veil echoing the Carmelite tradition. She extends the Brown Scapular with a gentle, inviting gesture, while the Child rests in her arms and raises His hand in blessing. A hillside church, rocky paths, flowers, and the sea gather around them, giving the scene the contemplative atmosphere of pilgrimage and prayer. The visible scapulars point to a life clothed in devotion, not as an end in itself, but as a sign of belonging to Christ under Mary’s maternal care. The whole composition rests in warm light, inviting trust, protection, and faithful remembrance.

Sacred Tradition

History & Devotion

Our Lady of Mount Carmel is a beloved Marian title associated with the Carmelite Order and its spiritual roots on Mount Carmel in the Holy Land. Carmelites have long honored the Blessed Virgin Mary as mother, patroness, and model of contemplative prayer. The Brown Scapular, widely connected with Carmelite devotion, is worn by many Catholics as a sign of consecration, humility, and trust in Mary’s motherly intercession. While devotional traditions surrounding the scapular developed over centuries, the heart of the devotion remains deeply Christ-centered: Mary leads the faithful to her Son and teaches them to live in prayerful fidelity. The feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is celebrated on July 16.

For Prayer

Prayer to Our Lady of Mount Carmel

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, gentle Mother and guide of souls, draw me nearer to your Son. Clothe my heart in humility, prayer, and faithful love. Help me to carry the sign of devotion with sincerity, to trust in your maternal care, and to follow Christ with courage each day. Amen.
