Our Lady of La Leche

Our Lady of La Leche belongs to the long Catholic tradition often called Madonna Lactans, a devotional and artistic theme portraying the Blessed Virgin Mary nursing the infant Jesus. Such images emphasize the true humanity of Christ, who accepted the ordinary needs of infancy, and the real motherhood of Mary, who nourished Him with maternal care. The devotion is also associated with the Spanish title Nuestra Señora de la Leche y Buen Parto, through which many Catholics have prayed for mothers, infants, childbirth, and family life. In its quiet intimacy, the image directs contemplation toward the mystery of the Incarnation, not as an abstraction, but as God made flesh, received and loved in a mother’s arms.
