About This Sacred Artwork

Our Lady of Advent appears here in a moment of tender expectation with Saint Joseph. Mary stands clothed in rose and blue, her hands resting over her womb, while Joseph draws near with protective gentleness and quiet awe. Their golden halos and bowed faces draw the eye toward the hidden mystery of Christ, already present yet not yet seen. The warm interior, soft daylight, and close embrace speak of holy marriage, faithful waiting, and the silence of Advent. This artwork invites contemplation of the Incarnation as it entered the world through humility, trust, and the hidden life of a family prepared by grace.

Feast Day

December 18, Expectation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Sacred Tradition

History & Devotion

Devotion to Mary in her holy expectation has long held a place in Catholic Advent prayer, especially under titles such as Our Lady of Expectation. The feast associated with this devotion is traditionally observed on December 18 in parts of the Church, drawing attention to the final days before Christmas and to Mary’s faithful waiting for the birth of Christ. In contemplating the expectant Blessed Virgin Mary, Catholics are invited to enter the stillness of Advent with hope, patience, and trust. When Saint Joseph is shown beside her, the devotion also recalls his quiet obedience, guardianship, and reverent love for the mystery entrusted to his home.
