About This Sacred Artwork

The Holy Name of Mary is presented through the luminous imagery of Stella Maris, Our Lady, Star of the Sea. Mary appears in a blue mantle with hands crossed over her heart, surrounded by golden clouds and the inscription MARIA beneath a radiant star. Below her, a small sailboat moves through restless waves as light descends through the storm. The scene draws the eye from danger toward hope, from darkness toward the maternal presence of the Blessed Virgin. It invites prayerful trust in Mary’s intercession and in the light of Christ to whom she always leads the faithful.

Sacred Tradition

History & Devotion

The Feast of the Holy Name of Mary is celebrated in the Roman Catholic calendar on September 12. Devotion to Mary’s name honors the Blessed Virgin as the Mother of God and recalls the reverence Christians have long shown toward her maternal intercession. The title Stella Maris, meaning Star of the Sea, has been cherished in Catholic prayer as an image of Mary guiding the faithful through danger toward Christ. In this artwork, the holy name MARIA, the radiant star, and the troubled sea come together in a visual meditation on hope, protection, and steadfast trust during spiritual storms.
