About This Sacred Artwork

The Sacred Heart of Jesus is shown in a close, luminous portrait, His gentle gaze meeting the viewer with solemn tenderness. Clothed in a red garment and white mantle, Christ raises one hand toward His radiant Heart while the other opens outward in welcome. The Heart is encircled with thorns, glowing with light, and surmounted by the Cross, drawing the eye to the mystery of divine love revealed through sacrifice. The golden halo and warm, shadowed background give the scene a contemplative stillness. This work invites devotion to the merciful Heart of Christ, where suffering love becomes refuge, consolation, and hope.

Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Friday after Corpus Christi

Sacred Tradition

History & Devotion

Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus honors the love of Christ made visible in His human Heart, a love poured out in the Incarnation, Passion, Eucharist, and mercy of God. Its roots reach deeply into Scripture and the Church’s meditation on Christ’s pierced side, from which flowed blood and water. The devotion developed through centuries of Catholic prayer and was strongly promoted in the seventeenth century through Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque and the spiritual tradition surrounding Paray-le-Monial. Today the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus on the Friday after Corpus Christi, inviting the faithful to contemplate the Heart of Christ as the source of divine charity and reparation.

For Prayer

Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Sacred Heart of Jesus, gentle and merciful, draw my heart close to Yours. Teach me to trust Your love, to seek forgiveness with humility, and to answer suffering with charity. May Your Heart be my refuge in fear, my strength in trial, and my hope in every need. Amen.
