History & Devotion

The Divine Mercy devotion is closely associated with Saint Faustina Kowalska, a Polish religious sister whose spiritual writings helped spread renewed trust in the merciful love of Christ. The familiar image of Jesus with red and pale rays flowing from His Heart reflects this devotion’s central message: the mercy of God poured out through Christ’s Passion and offered to sinners with inexhaustible compassion. In 2000, Pope Saint John Paul II established Divine Mercy Sunday for the universal Church on the Second Sunday of Easter. The devotion invites the faithful to approach Christ with repentance, receive His mercy, and extend mercy to others through prayer, sacrifice, and works of charity.
