About This Sacred Artwork

Jesus is shown in the beloved Divine Mercy form, standing in a white robe against a dark, contemplative interior. A warm golden halo surrounds His face, while His right hand is raised in blessing and His left hand rests near His heart. From that sacred center, red and pale rays pour outward in luminous streams, recalling the mercy of Christ offered to the whole world. The contrast of shadow and radiance gives the scene a quiet solemnity, inviting the viewer to behold the Lord not from a distance, but with trust. It is an image of blessing, nearness, and mercy received in prayer.

Divine Mercy Sunday, the Second Sunday of Easter

Sacred Tradition

History & Devotion

The Divine Mercy devotion is closely associated with Saint Faustina Kowalska, a Polish religious sister of the twentieth century. In her diary, she recorded spiritual experiences centered on Christ’s mercy and the call to trust in Him. The familiar Divine Mercy image shows Jesus in a white garment, one hand raised in blessing, with red and pale rays proceeding from His heart. These rays are traditionally connected with the Blood and water that flowed from Christ’s pierced side. Saint John Paul II canonized Saint Faustina in 2000 and established Divine Mercy Sunday for the universal Church, celebrated on the Second Sunday of Easter. The devotion invites Catholics to entrust themselves, their loved ones, and the whole world to the merciful love of Jesus.
