About This Sacred Artwork

Saint Padre Pio is shown kneeling in a shadowed chapel filled with golden light, his brown Capuchin habit gathered around him as he opens his wounded hands in prayer. A rosary hangs at his side, a halo encircles his bowed head, and the Crucified Christ stands above the altar amid candles and incense. The visible stigmata draw the eye not toward spectacle, but toward union with the Passion of Jesus. In this contemplative scene, Padre Pio appears as a priest and spiritual father whose suffering is held before the Lord with humility, reverence, and trust.

Sacred Tradition

History & Devotion

Devotion to Saint Padre Pio centers on his priestly life, his ministry of confession, and his profound union with the Passion of Christ. A Capuchin friar of the twentieth century, he became widely known after receiving the stigmata, wounds associated with the suffering of Jesus, which he bore for decades. Many Catholics remember him for his reverence at Mass, his counsel to penitents, and his constant call to prayer, trust, and perseverance. His memorial is celebrated on September 23, the date of his death in 1968. Devotion to Padre Pio continues to draw the faithful toward the mercy of God, especially through Confession, Eucharistic prayer, and patient endurance in suffering.

A Life of Faith

The Saint’s Story

Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, known affectionately as Padre Pio, was born Francesco Forgione in southern Italy in 1887. He entered the Capuchin Franciscan order as a young man and was ordained a priest in 1910. Much of his life was spent at San Giovanni Rotondo, where countless people came to him for Confession, spiritual counsel, and prayer. Though he carried intense physical and spiritual suffering, including the stigmata, he remained devoted to the Mass, the Rosary, and the salvation of souls. Canonized by Pope Saint John Paul II in 2002, Padre Pio is remembered as a humble priest who pointed others toward Christ’s mercy.

For Prayer

Prayer with Saint Padre Pio

Saint Padre Pio, faithful servant of Christ and humble bearer of suffering, pray for us. Teach us to love the Crucified Lord with patience, courage, and trust. Help us seek God’s mercy in Confession, remain faithful in prayer, and offer our trials with love. Lead us closer to Jesus, who heals, forgives, and saves. Amen.
