About This Sacred Artwork

Saint Gabriel the Archangel stands in luminous stillness, his white wings opened against a sky filled with golden light. Clothed in white garments and a deep blue mantle ornamented with gold, he holds a staff in one hand and white lilies in the other, signs that gently recall purity, heavenly mission, and reverent obedience to God. The sunlit landscape below gives the scene a sense of arrival, as though the messenger of the Lord has come bearing holy news. This portrayal invites contemplation of Gabriel’s words at the Annunciation and the grace of receiving God’s will with trust.

Sacred Tradition

History & Devotion

Saint Gabriel is one of the three archangels named in Sacred Scripture and honored by the Church. His name is often understood to mean “God is my strength.” In the Book of Daniel, Gabriel appears as a heavenly interpreter of visions. In the Gospel of Luke, he announces the birth of Saint John the Baptist to Zechariah and, most profoundly, brings the Annunciation to the Blessed Virgin Mary, declaring that she will bear the Son of God. Catholic devotion remembers Gabriel as a messenger of divine revelation, especially associated with attentiveness, purity, and faithful response to God’s word. The Church celebrates him with Saints Michael and Raphael on September 29.

A Life of Faith

The Saint’s Story

Saint Gabriel’s story is told through the messages God entrusts to him. He appears in Scripture not to draw attention to himself, but to reveal the Lord’s saving plan. To Zechariah, he announces that Elizabeth will bear a son who will prepare the way of the Lord. To the Blessed Virgin Mary in Nazareth, Gabriel speaks the angelic greeting, “Hail, full of grace,” and announces the mystery of the Incarnation. Mary’s fiat follows his message, and the Word becomes flesh. Devotion to Saint Gabriel therefore turns the heart toward listening, humility, courage, and joyful obedience before God’s call.

For Prayer

Prayer to Saint Gabriel the Archangel

Saint Gabriel the Archangel, faithful messenger of God, help me listen for the Lord’s word with a humble and trusting heart. Intercede for me, that I may welcome God’s will as the Blessed Virgin Mary did, with courage, purity, and peace. Guide my words toward truth, charity, and hope, and lead me always closer to Christ. Amen.
