The Saint’s Story

According to longstanding tradition, Saint Dymphna was a young Christian woman of noble birth in Ireland. After the death of her mother, she fled from grave danger with the priest Saint Gerebernus and companions, eventually reaching the region of Geel in present-day Belgium. There, she continued to live her faith until she was found and martyred. Though the historical details come to us through later tradition, the Church has long honored her as a witness to purity, courage, and fidelity under great suffering.
