About This Sacred Artwork

Saint Joan of Arc stands in polished armor, her gaze lifted toward a break of golden light in the clouds. A radiant halo encircles her head while she holds a sword at her side and a white banner marked with the IHS monogram and fleur-de-lis. The surrounding atmosphere suggests battle and mission, yet her expression remains calm, attentive, and prayerful. This portrait honors Joan not merely as a warrior, but as a young saint whose courage was rooted in obedience to God. The shining armor, lowered sword, and lifted eyes together invite contemplation of steadfast faith under trial.

Sacred Tradition

History & Devotion

Saint Joan of Arc has long been honored by Catholics as a witness to courage joined to humble obedience. Her life unfolded in the turmoil of fifteenth-century France, yet her sanctity is remembered not simply through military victory, but through fidelity, purity of intention, and perseverance under suffering. Joan was canonized by Pope Benedict XV in 1920, and her feast is observed on May 30. In sacred art she is often shown in armor with a banner, visual signs of her public mission. For prayer, her image calls the faithful to ask for courage that remains obedient, strength that remains pure, and conviction that stays rooted in God.

A Life of Faith

The Saint’s Story

Saint Joan of Arc was born in Domrémy, France, around 1412. As a young peasant girl, she testified that she had received heavenly guidance calling her to help her country in a time of war. Still in her teens, she went before leaders, took up a public mission, and became associated with the lifting of the siege of Orléans. Captured by enemies, she was tried and condemned, then burned at Rouen in 1431 at about nineteen years old. Years later the trial against her was nullified. The Church canonized her in 1920, honoring her as a saint of courage, chastity, and steadfast fidelity to God.

For Prayer

Prayer for Courage with Saint Joan of Arc

Saint Joan of Arc, courageous servant of God, pray for me when faith requires strength and obedience requires sacrifice. Ask the Lord to purify my intentions, steady my heart, and keep my eyes fixed on His will. May I face trial without bitterness, speak truth with humility, and follow Christ with brave and faithful love. Amen.
