About This Sacred Artwork

Saint Gabriel the Archangel stands in a luminous landscape, his white wings rising against a golden sky. Clothed in richly patterned ivory robes and a deep blue mantle, he holds white lilies in one hand and a golden scepter in the other. The distant city and radiant horizon recall Nazareth and the mystery of the Annunciation, when Gabriel was sent to the Blessed Virgin Mary with the message of the Incarnation. The lilies speak to purity and the scepter to his heavenly office as messenger. This artwork invites quiet contemplation of obedience, holy communication, and the light-bearing grace of God’s word.

Sacred Tradition

History & Devotion

Saint Gabriel is one of the three archangels named in Sacred Scripture, together with Saint Michael and Saint Raphael. His name is often understood as “God is my strength.” In the Book of Daniel, Gabriel appears as an interpreter of heavenly visions. In the Gospel of Luke, he announces the birth of Saint John the Baptist to Zechariah and, most importantly, brings the message of the Incarnation to the Blessed Virgin Mary at Nazareth. Because of this sacred mission, Catholic devotion remembers Gabriel as the herald of Christ’s coming and a heavenly messenger of God’s saving plan. The Church celebrates Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, Archangels, on September 29.

For Prayer

Prayer to Saint Gabriel the Archangel

Saint Gabriel the Archangel, faithful messenger of God, pray for us. Help us to receive the word of the Lord with humility, courage, and trust. Guide our speech toward truth and charity, and teach us to say yes to God’s will as the Blessed Virgin Mary did at Nazareth. Amen.
