The Saint’s Story

Saint Joan of Arc was born in Domrémy, France, in 1412, the daughter of a peasant family. As a young girl, she lived a devout Catholic life and testified that heavenly voices called her to help France during the Hundred Years’ War. Still a teenager, she approached the dauphin and became associated with the lifting of the siege of Orléans. Captured by enemy forces, Joan endured imprisonment and trial before being executed at Rouen in 1431. Years later, the judgment against her was overturned. Canonized in 1920, she is honored as a saint whose courage flowed from faith, prayer, and steadfast obedience to God.
